About
Alfred Memelink Artspace Gallery
Just over ten years ago, Alfred Memelink built and opened the Artspace Gallery on the eastern end of the Petone foreshore, after spotting a gap in the Wellington art scene for a gallery that truly focused on local art.
Step inside and you’ll find a warm, welcoming space filled with the work of New Zealand artists — mostly locals — showcasing everything from watercolours and oils to ceramics, textile art, woodwork, jewellery, glass art, and unique, handmade gifts. With five gallery spaces to explore, there’s always something new to discover — no wonder it’s known as one of the region’s must-visit places!
Exhibitions change regularly and are often launched with lively opening events, complete with live jazz music.
But the gallery is much more than just a place to view art. Alfred loves sharing the joy of painting and happily passes on the skills he’s learned over the years. He runs popular school holiday Art Casses, relaxed "Wine and Watercolours" evenings for grown-ups, as well as family workshops and creative team-building events.
Art here is for everyone — to enjoy, to learn, and to be inspired by.
